Tehran, Iran, Nov. 27 – A senior Iranian official who until recently oversaw the country’s nuclear negotiations with the West has accused the Gulf Cooperation Council of serving the United States in the region.

“The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council is serving the U.S.”, Ali Larijani was quoted as saying by the government-owned news agency Fars on Monday.

His remarks made to students at a Tehran university came at a time when Tehran is at loggerheads with the international community over its nuclear program.

Larijani said that Iran must invest in nuclear energy.

He added that a U.S. withdrawal from the region would lead to peace.
