ImageTehran, Iran, Apr. 19 – Iran’s Interior Minister denied claims that he is due to be replaced after Iran’s upcoming second round of elections, state media reported on Saturday.

“I have not heard of it, and it is unlikely that this will happen”, radical Shiite cleric Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said of rumours that he may step down as Interior Minister and be-reassigned as Minister of Intelligence and Security.

“I am busy taking care of my responsibilities now and I would inform the nation on the issue when need be”, the official news agency IRNA quoted Pour-Mohammadi as saying.

This comes ten days after government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham confirmed that both Pour-Mohammadi and Iran’s Economy and Finance Minister Davoud Danesh Jafari would be replaced.

Hojjatol-Islam Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, 49, was previously in charge of the Special Department for Security and Intelligence in the Office of the Supreme Leader.

He is also a former Deputy Minister of Intelligence and Security and a former Military Revolutionary Prosecutor. Human rights groups charge that Pour-Mohammadi oversaw the murder of thousands of political prisoners in Iranian jails in 1988.
