ImageTehran, Iran, Aug. 26 – Iran's envoy to Japan emphasized Mahoud Ahmadinejad's new government's determination to develop ties with his Japanese counterparts.

"Continuation of high-level visits and political interaction with Japan is on the agenda (of the new government). In addition to that, if Iran enjoys more powerful relations with Japan, it will have better interaction with other countries in East Asia, including China and India," Seyed Abbas Araghchi told the state-run Fars News on Tuesday.

Tehran and Tokyo already have an agreement in place for cooperation in optimizing energy consumption.

Analysts believe that Tehran will be looking towards the Far East for economic development as the squeeze of international sanctions over Iran's nuclear programme intensifies.
