Tehran, Iran, Sep. 30 Pharmacology students in the University of Shiraz, southern Iran, have boycotted classes and plan to hold a demonstration outside Irans Majlis (Parliament) in Tehran to protest against government policy on medicine and pharmaceutical companies, a student activist said.
The students have refused to attend classes since Saturday and have threatened to hold a protest outside the Majlis next week, the student said in an email sent to Iran Focus.
The protesting students say the clergy-dominated government is allowing certain corrupt officials to exercise a monopoly on proscription drugs. The high costs of medicines and the severe shortage of many proscription drugs are the source of widespread discontent in Iran.
