ImageTehran, Mar. 03 – Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gloated on Wednesday that all serious threats against his government's nuclear program have been thwarted, state media reported.

"After the Iranian nation decided to proceed with the program, the Westerners staged an extensive onslaught against Iran and its enrichment program", Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the official state news agency IRNA.

Ahmadinejad added that although Western nations had made every effort to thwart Iran's nuclear developments, they had failed.

In a clear swipe at a recent proposal put forward by a number of nations, Ahmadinejad stated that rather than becoming a customer of the West's nuclear fuel bank, Iran was going to become a shareholder of the bank.

As Ahmadinejad made his government's intentions clear, Western leaders are stepping up attempts to put together a new set of UN Security Council sanctions to rebuke Tehran for its continued nuclear defiance.
