Tehran, May 14 – A delegation from Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) travelled to Santiago this week to discuss the potential for closer economic ties with Chile.

The Majlis deputies held separate talks Thursday with Chilean economic minister Juan Andres Fontaine and energy and mining minister Laurence Golborne, the state-run news agency Fars reported.

They discussed bilateral economic and industrial cooperation, especially in the fields of energy, mining and commerce.

Since taking office in 2005 Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has forged closer links with Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, and Cuba.
