Tehran, Iran, Jun. 16 – Top Iranian officials have stressed Tehran’s aim of establishing strong ties with other Muslim countries, state media reported on Thursday.

The head of the Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi stated on Wednesday during a meeting with Sudanese Minister of Youth and Sports Hag Majid Swar in Tehran that the Islamic Republic wanted to enhance its ties with Khartoum.

“Developing capabilities of the Islamic Ummah in different fields of technology, science and economy will raise the status of the Muslim world in international relations”, he said.

The state-run news agency Fars reported that Boroujerdi emphasised it was Iran’s top priority in foreign policy to create new ties with Islamic countries as well as strengthening existing ties.

Tehran has always placed emphasis on “enhanced ties” with Sudan, he said.

Fars separately reported that Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi on Wednesday castigated Western powers for their “interference” in Muslim nations, stating: “They are violating the rights of Muslims”.

In a meeting with Swar, he stressed the importance of maintaining unity and solidarity among Muslim people, saying they should equip themselves with information and technologies to “restore their rights”.

Rahimi went on to stress Iran’s readiness to bolster ties with Sudan in political, economic and cultural fields, saying: “As a Muslim country, Iran has always supported other Muslim countries, particularly Sudan.”
