PAPHOS, Cyprus (AP) — The foreign ministers of Germany and France say they support new sanctions against Iran if talks on Tehran’s nuclear program don’t make any substantial progress.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said Friday that Iran needs to allow international inspectors free and unfettered access to all of its nuclear installations and to verifiably refrain from building nuclear weapons.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said he will work with Westerwelle and Italian counterpart Giulio Terzi in the next few days on a proposal for new sanctions.

The U.S. and other countries worry Iran could use its uranium enrichment labs to produce weapons-grade material. Iran insists that it seeks only to make nuclear fuel for energy and medical reactors.

The latest round of nuclear talks in Moscow in June ended without visible results.
