Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Sunday slammed the recent deal with Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programs, saying he’s “very discouraged.”

The deal — which involves limitation for Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for decreased sanctions from the U.S. — is “a total victory” for Iran, Corker said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“Not a single centrifuge being dismantled,” he said. Overall, Corker added, the deal is “us validating them over the next six months” while their nuclear program remains intact.

“As long as they can enrich [uranium], it seems to be that we are violating the very standards that we set in place,” he said.

Corker said he is “very discouraged” and hopes the U.S. is “able to have a better endgame.”

Earlier this month, Corker introduced a bill that would limit the administration’s ability to loosen sanctions against Iran.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), also a guest on this week’s “Face the Nation,” said the U.S. deal with Iran has put the country in a “very responsible position.”

Through the deal, the U.S. is “creating a sanctions regime that is an insurance policy and also creates leverage for us,” he said.
