Tehran, Iran, Sep. 01 – Parviz Davoodi is set to become the First vice-President in the cabinet of Iran’s newly-installed hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to a state-owned news site.

The official announcement of Davoodi’s appointment is expected to take place within the next 48 hours, sources close to the president said.

Davoodi, 53, had previously been eyed to take up the post of head of the country’s central bank, however it is believed that he has rejected the post because of differences with the new Economics Minister, Davood Danesh-Jaafari.

He currently is the economics advisor for the head of Iran’s hard-line judiciary, Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi. During the administration of Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Davoodi was a senior figure in the Ministry of Economy.
