Tehran, Iran, Sep. 12 – A semi-official Iranian daily has written in its Tuesday edition that 10 member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are opposed to the call by the European trio of Britain, France, and Germany, as well as the United States to send Tehran’s nuclear file before the United Nations Security Council for possible further action.

“The efforts by the America and the European Union to send Iran’s nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council has met stiff resistance by certain members of the International Atomic Energy Agency”, the hard-line daily Jomhouri Islami, wrote, adding that 10 of the 35 member states of the UN’s atomic watchdog were firmly opposed to such an action.

The daily added that Pakistan and Brazil had outright rejected the idea of an Iranian referral.

Separately, Iran’s Vice President Gholamreza Aghazadeh, in charge of the country’s atomic energy agency, told reporters in Moscow on Monday that Tehran would never abandon its nuclear pursuit regardless of whatever “bribes” were offered to it by the international community. Aghazadeh claimed that there was no “legitimate reason” for Iran’s nuclear file to be hauled before the Security Council.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Reuters news agency reported that the joint EU and U.S. effort to refer Iran to the council had met fierce resistance from more than half a dozen members of the IAEA.

Monday’s edition of the New York Times reported that Iranian officials say they doubt that Europe and the U.S. will be able to get enough support from among the 35 member states of the nuclear agency’s board of governors to send the case to the Security Council.
