London, Oct. 01 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatened on Saturday to hold back Iran’s oil supply to the international community and limit inspections of the country’s nuclear sites if the West referred the Islamic Republic’s nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council.

“If Iran’s case is sent to the Security Council, we will respond by many ways, for example by holding back on oil sales or limiting inspections of our nuclear facilities”, Ahmadinejad said in an interview with the Dubai-based Khaleej Times.

Asked whether Iran would attempt to trigger a rise in oil prices and withdraw from the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Ahmadinejad told the journal “Any smart human being should use every resource in order to achieve his independence”.

This was the first time the Iranian President made a clear threat as to what Iran would actually do if it was sent before the Security Council.

He said that Tehran was willing to transfer “nuclear know-how” to other Islamic countries.

Turning to Iraq, Ahmadinejad, who has been a senior Revolutionary Guards commander, said that there was “a direct link between the lack of security in Iraq and the continuing occupation”.
