Tehran, Iran, Oct. 18 – Some 11 people have been arrested in the north-western Iranian province of Ardebil, the Judiciary’s Public Relations Office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Quoting authorities in Ardebil, the Judiciary said the “trouble-makers” and “seditious elements in society” were arrested on various charges, including distribution of alcohol and “creating trouble”.

Iranian officials often refer to millions of unemployed young men, who are often beset by frustration and despair, as “trouble-makers” and “seditious elements”.

Since early September, a “Plan to Combat Trouble-makers” has been in effect in the Iranian capital Tehran. The plan was recently expanded nationwide.

Thousands of young men have been arrested during the crackdown and hundreds have been sentenced in special Islamic courts and jailed.
