Tehran, Iran, Dec. 30 – A senior Iranian cleric declared during his Friday prayers sermon in Tehran that neighbouring Iraq would end up under Islamic rule.

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, who heads the powerful Guardian Council, told Friday prayers worshippers that the world was witnessing “the emergence of Islam and the establishment of Islamic rule all over the world”, bringing about the “disgrace” of the United States in places such as Iraq.

“We are happy with all that has happened in Iraq, including the elections and the victory of the encompassing and Islamist alliance. Considering this trend, we can determine that a stable Islamic rule is being established in this country. We expect a victory for Islam, Muslims, and the people of the world. Islam is victorious and the victory of Islam has led to the disgrace of the World Arrogance including the United States”.

Jannati said that the Iraqi people were currently demanding the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, adding that the Iraqi elections were a “victory for Islam and a defeat for the occupiers”.
