Tehran, Iran, Jan. 01 – Iran’s top security official is expected to announce later on Sunday the Islamic Republic’s official position vis-à-vis a Russian proposal for Tehran to carry out uranium enrichment on Russian soil rather than its own, according to a report in the state-owned Fars news agency.

Ali Larijani, secretary-general of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), will be speaking on state television, the report said.

It added that Larijani would give Tehran’s latest position regarding the proposal.

Russian has proposed that Tehran carry out uranium enrichment on its soil to ease international concerns that the end material would go towards nuclear weapons development. Senior Iranian officials, however, have insisted that Iran’s “red line” during nuclear negotiations is to be able to carry out uranium enrichment within its own borders.
