Tehran, Iran, Jan. 03 – Iranian journalists are “unhappy” with a one-million-dollar cash gift given to them by hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a “goodwill gesture”.

The Association of Muslim Journalists said in a statement that Ahmadinejad would do better to support media service programs rather than pay a lump sum which would amount to very little once distributed among the country’s journalists.

The statement added that the money may well end up in the hands of journalists working outside of professional associations.

It said that the cash gift has created a frenzy among journalists and given rise to a “mountain of problems” for Ahmadinejad’s hard-line government.
