Tehran, Iran, Jan. 12 – Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker vowed on Thursday that Iran would pursue nuclear research and development at its uranium enrichment plant in Natanz and said that the European Union had to answer for why it had insisted that Tehran’s nuclear file be sent before the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions.

Speaking in the central city of Isfahan, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said, “We have taken the decision to resume scientific nuclear research. If such an action means going to the Security Council, the EU must answer for why they have decided in such a way on this matter when we are cooperating with the IAEA and our scientific activities are being conducted under the watch of the IAEA”.

After a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the EU’s “big three” – France, Germany, and the United Kingdom – along with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced that the EU would push for Tehran’s suspected nuclear file to be sent to the Security Council because Iran’s lifting of IAEA seals at Natanz and the resumption of sensitive nuclear work had breached an agreement between Tehran and the EU-3 on the matter.
