London, Jan. 12 – The Czech Republic and Slovakia on Thursday added their voices to a chorus of international condemnation against Iran’s resumption of nuclear enrichment-related activities.

The Czech Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it was “deeply concerned” at the Iranian move.

Iran lifted seals of the United Nations nuclear watchdog at several of its nuclear plants including its uranium enrichment facility in Natanz.

“The fact that Iran took this step unilaterally in contradiction with the Paris Agreement signed with the EU and the resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors cast serious doubts on the declared peaceful purposes of the Iranian nuclear program”, the statement said.

It said that the Iranian action contributed to the destabilisation of the Middle East in the current sensitive period.

It called on Tehran to suspend immediately nuclear research and development commenced at Natanz.

Slovakia said at the same time that it was “very concerned” by the Iranian action, according to a ministry spokesman.

“It is indispensable at this critical stage that Iran takes a constructive position with regard to the proposals made by the international community”, the spokesman said.

Slovakia said it supported the referral of Tehran’s suspected nuclear weapons program to the UN Security Council.
