Tehran, Iran, Jan. 13 – A top Iranian official rejected on Friday an announcement by the Europe’s “big three” – Britain, France, and Germany – that the European Union was seeking to send the Islamic Republic’s nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council as “illogical”.

Allaedin Boroujerdi, who heads the Iranian Majils’s (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told the state-run news agency ISNA that Tehran would continue with its sensitive nuclear work despite the looming threat of Security Council referral.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced time and time again that it would not accept illogical requests”, Boroujerdi said, referring to the EU’s demand that Tehran halt all uranium enrichment-related activities.

The top Majlis official expressed surprise at the EU decision to seek Iran’s referral, saying that such threats “would not have an effect on the will of the Iranian nation”.
