Tehran, Iran, Feb. 04 – Iran will begin uranium enrichment and end its “voluntary” cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency immediately on the basis of a presidential directive issued by hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the government-run Mehr news agency reported on Saturday.

The announcement came after the 35-nation board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency voted to report Iran’s suspected nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council.

Ahmadinejad’s directive was addressed to Reza Aghazadeh, head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), ordering the organisation to resume uranium enrichment and prevent international inspectors’ access to nuclear facilities.

“The law passed in the Majlis on the suspension of voluntary actions if the nuclear file is referred or reported to the Security Council was ratified in the open session of the Majlis on Tuesday 22 November 2005 and was approved by the Guardians Council and is hereby ordered to be implemented”, the presidential directive said.
