London, Mar. 14 – United States President George W. Bush accused Iran of supplying powerful roadside bombs to Iraqi insurgents responsible for the deaths of Coalition troops.

Speaking on Monday at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, Bush said that some of the most powerful Improvised Explosive Devices in Iraq today included components that came from Iran.

“Coalition forces have seized IEDs and components that were clearly produced in Iran”, Bush said.

He said that the U.S.’s Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, had told Congress, “Tehran has been responsible for at least some of the increasing lethality of anti-coalition attacks by providing Shia militia with the capability to build Improvised Explosive Devises” in Iraq.

“Such actions”, Bush said, “along with Iran’s support for terrorism and its pursuit of nuclear weapons — are increasingly isolating Iran”.

He added that America would continue to “rally the world to confront these threats”.

Bush highlighted the issue of Iran-backed Shiite militias infiltrating the ranks of Iraq’s police force. “There have been some reports of infiltration of the national police by Shia militias. And so we’re taking a number of steps to correct this problem”.

“We are working with the Iraqi leaders to find and remove any leaders in the national police who show evidence of loyalties to militia”, the U.S. President said.
