Tehran, Iran, Mar. 28 – Iran’s State Security Forces carried out close to two million spot inspections in public places over the past 12 months and mounted 6,000 operations every day in the Iranian capital over the Persian year that ended on March 20, according to a report released on Tuesday by the country’s police authorities.

“In the year that has ended, everyday there were 6,000 police operations in the city of Tehran”, said the report, which gave a breakdown of police activities in Iran during the past 12 months.

Much of the police operations in Tehran were part of the “Plan to Increase National Security”, launched after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took office last year.

Over the past year, 5,789 shops were shut down because they did not conform with the regulations of the Islamic Republic, the police report added.

At least 700 women were arrested for “mal-veiling”, he said.
