Tehran, Iran, Apr. 04 – Iran demanded on Tuesday that the United Nations Security Council stop looking into its nuclear dossier and called for issue to be taken up at the International Atomic Energy Agency instead.

The Security Council adopted a statement unanimously on Wednesday giving Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the IAEA.

“Currently, our nuclear file is stuck between the IAEA and the Security Council and it is going back and forth”, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said. His comments were carried by the official news agency.

“We said from the start that this issue must be resolved in the IAEA and there was no reason for it to be sent to another body”, Asefi said.

“Iran’s nuclear case must go to the IAEA so that it can be dealt with in that capacity”.

“The United Nations Security Council does not have the capacity to deal with this issue”, Asefi added.

“Next week, an IAEA team will come to Iran, but since we are not adhering to the [nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty’s Additional”> Protocol there will not be any snap inspections. Inspections must be scheduled in advance. This trip has already been arranged”.
