Tehran, Iran, Apr. 11 – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad bluntly declared late on Monday that pressures by the United Nations would have no impact on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear “progress”.

“International pressure has no impact on progress in the path of the Iranian nation as it carries out its peaceful nuclear activities”, Ahmadinejad said at a gathering of clerics in the eastern province of Khorassan Razavi. His remarks were carried by the state-run news agency ISNA on Tuesday.

The West believes Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program under the guise of atomic energy development.

The United Nations Security Council adopted a “Presidential Statement” unanimously on March 29 giving Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said on Monday that the EU should consider sanctions against Tehran for refusing to heed the demands of the UN.
