Tehran, May 17 – Despite a promise by hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before he took office to root out poverty and corruption, Iran’s State Security Forces have launched a new crackdown on poor and homeless people in Tehran.

As part of the crackdown, agents of the SSF have begun arresting beggars all over the Iranian capital.

The new crackdown was officially launched as the “Plan to Round Up Beggars”.
