Tehran, Iran, Jul. 31 Clashes erupted between people and government forces in the north-western city of Tabriz, residents told Iran Focus by telephone on Monday.
State Security Forces attacked a peaceful anti-government protest in the city centre on Friday, sparking violent clashes, according to a source who requested anonymity.
A sound-bomb was set off at the governors office in the Azeri-dominated city, smashing several windows.
In May, at least 100,000 Azeris rallied in Tabriz against the publication of an insulting cartoon in the official daily Iran.
Subsequently, thousands took part in often violent anti-government demonstrations in the towns of Orumieh, Zanjan, Marand, Naqadeh and Ardebil.
At least nine people were killed by government forces in the course of clashes with the protestors.
