Tehran, Iran, Sep. 12 – Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna said on Tuesday that the political atmosphere over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear standoff with the West was in Tehran’s favour.

“All the developing countries, most European governments, and many of the member states of the Security Council insist on a peaceful resolution to Iran’s nuclear dossier”, Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said. His comments were aired on state television.

Soltanieh said that IAEA director general Mohamed ElBaradei’s positive assessment of Iran’s nuclear negotiations with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana was a sign that the political atmosphere had become in Iran’s favour.

He said that with Cuba taking over as host of the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) states, Iran’s political standing would better advance in the international community.
