Tehran, Iran, Sep. 19 – Iran has appointed a deputy foreign minister as its new top envoy to Belgium, state media reported.

Alireza Sheikh Attar is currently accompanying hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as he tours the South American continent and the United Nations general assembly in New York.

Sheikh Attar will soon take over the post of Iran’s ambassador to Belgium, the reports said.

In previous years, he served as Iran’s ambassador to India, and he was once the editor in chief of the state-run daily Hamshari.

He is currently Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs.
