Tehran, Iran, Dec. 21 – Iran’s security forces have killed at least six “bandits” near the county’s eastern frontier over the past several days, a senior commander of the State Security Forces (SSF) announced.

The deputy commander of the SSF in the Rasoul Akram military base said his forces had “killed six armed bandits in the course of several separate operations over the past three days”. His comments were reported by the official news agency on Tuesday.

The base’s forces have launched a massive intelligence-gathering operation and a series of task-force maneuvers near Iran’s eastern border in an effort to deal “decisively” with “sources of insecurity”, Brigadier General Qassem Rezai said. He added that his forces were also hunting down illegal drug traffickers.

Iranian authorities routinely execute dissidents on the bogus charge of drug smuggling.
