Israel’s reaction to UN Security Council Resolution on Iran’s nuclear program

The imposition of sanctions is an important decision in the fight to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.

(Communicated by the Israel Foreign Ministry Spokesman)

Today’s Security Council resolution demonstrates the understanding of the international community that the world cannot afford to tolerate an Iran that possesses nuclear weapons. The imposing of sanctions is an important first step. However, assuming that these initial sanctions will not be sufficient to stop the process, the international community must demand additional action, quickly and firmly.

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni stated: “The imposition of sanctions is an important decision in the fight to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. The international community will be called upon to continue to show its determination in waging the common battle until the goal of halting Iran’s nuclear program is achieved.”
