Tehran, May 29 – The governor of one of Ukraine’s provinces has urged Iranian investors to take a stronger role in Ukraine’s oil exploitation projects.
Iran’s state-run news agency Fars on Saturday quoted Mykhailo Tsymbaliuk, the head of Ukraine’s Lviv Regional State Administration, as saying: “Given Iran’s progress in the exploitation of oil and other natural resources, we will be glad to have Iranian investors here”.
“We pledge to provide all the necessary conditions for such investment in Lviv”, Tsymbaliuk added.
Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met with officials from Ukraine last November and called for the development of bilateral ties.
In February, representatives from several Ukrainian energy companies studied investment opportunities in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in Assalouyeh in southern Iran.
The group, consisting of 11 senior staffers from Ukrainian companies, toured the ongoing projects in the Pars energy zone in the southern province of Bushehr and met with the managers of the zone.
The South Pars gas field is estimated to have reserves of about 14 trillion cubic metres of gas – or about eight percent of the world’s reserves.
