Tehran, Jun. 13 – Ninety one people were arrested in Tehran in protests Saturday marking the anniversary of last year’s uprising, according to Tehran Police Commander Brig. Gen. Hossein Sajedi-Nia.
The state-run ISNA new agency quoted Sajedi-Nia as saying that those arrested had been handed over to the Judiciary.
Many parts of Tehran and university campuses were the scenes of clashes and hit-and-run skirmishes between opposition supporters and hundreds of security forces and the Bassij militia, as repressive measures failed to dent the determination of many Iranians in venting their anger at the regime. Protestors directed their chants against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Dozens of protesters, including many women, were injured in attacks by the police and plain-clothes agents.
