Tehran, Iran, Sep. 25 – A man was hanged in the city of Sari, capital of the northern Mazandaran Province, on drug charges, a semi-official daily reported on Sunday.

Nabi Paykoufteh had been arrested last year, according to the hard-line daily Kayhan which quoted the Sari Prosecutor, Ali Khanlari.

Executions and death sentences have soared since hard-liner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared winner of the June presidential race, with Iran’s state-run media reporting a four-fold increase.
