New deadly chopper crash in Iran

AFP: Two people were killed Saturday when their helicopter crashed into a lake in southern Iran while attempting to recover the wreckage of a chopper from a crash two days earlier at the same location. TEHRAN, Feb 17, 2007 (AFP) – Two people were killed Saturday when their helicopter crashed into a lake in southern Iran while attempting to recover the wreckage of a chopper from a crash two days earlier at the same location.

The helicopter crashed at around 11:00 am (0730 GMT), killing both occupants, the state-run IRNA agency reported.

Three people were confirmed to have been killed in the crash Thursday of an oil ministry helicopter into the lake, known locally as Mahrarloo.

State radio reported that the helicopter involved in Saturday’s crash was on its way to recover the wreckage of the chopper from the previous incident.

Officials blamed technical faults for that crash, although investigations are still ongoing.
