Tehran, Iran, Mar. 28 – Iran claimed on Wednesday that 15 British sailors who were arrested last week on the Iran-Iraq waterway were seized half a kilometre within Iranian territorial waters, hours after the British Ministry of Defence released global positioning system data as evidence that the group had been more than 2 km outside Iranian waters.

“Iran has handed over the geographic coordinates of the location of the arrest to the British government”, the official news agency IRNA quoted the Iranian embassy in London as having announced.

The detained sailors and marines are in good health, the embassy said, adding that there is an ongoing investigation regarding their “incursion”.

Tehran and London can resolve the standoff through contacts and close cooperation, it said.
