Xinhua: Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on Tuesday met with former Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and the two agreed to continue consultations to “deepen mutual understanding” on bilateral, regional and international issues, the Egyptian foreign ministry said. CAIRO, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on Tuesday met with former Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and the two agreed to continue consultations to “deepen mutual understanding” on bilateral, regional and international issues, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

In a press release, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki noted that Abul Gheit and Larijani, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, exchanged views on regional and international developments.

Larijani also briefed Abul Gheit on Iranian contacts with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Zaki added.

At a press conference held at the Egyptian Press Syndicate on Sunday, Larijani said that his country has the willingness to cooperate with Egypt in the field of nuclear technology.

Larijani, who resigned as the top Iranian nuclear negotiator in October, arrived in Cairo on Dec. 24, 2007 on a private visit to Egypt with his family.

Bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran have witnessed gradual improvement in recent years since the two nations cut their diplomatic ties in 1980.
