The Cabinet expressed is dismay over these “negative” remarks, which it said “hinder efforts exerted by the Gulf Cooperation Council and its sincere desire to build a relationship of friendship and cooperation with Iran.” It hoped that Iranian officials would show keenness for maintaining good relations and mutual respect for its neighbors, and to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries so as to strengthen ties in the interest of the people of the region.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Shura Council, the upper house of parliament, condemned Monday as “irresponsible” Iranian officials’ recent claims that Bahrain was an integral part of the Islamic Republic. The Council rebuffed the claims and called on the Tehran government to respect the fact that Iran and Bahrain are good neighbors. The Iranian government should underline its respect of UN resolutions which emphasized the Arabic identity of the Kingdom of Bahrain, its sovereignty and national independence, the council said in a statement.
