TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran's defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi said on Sunday he has requested to the powerful Guardians Council to cancel the result of the presidential poll.
"I submitted my request today to the Guardians Council to cancel the results of the election," said Mousavi, referring to the 12-member body which supervises elections in the Islamic republic.
Mousavi claims vote rigging is to blame for his defeat to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was declared winner of Friday's election with a thumping majority of around 63 percent.
