TEHRAN (Reuters) – Pakistan’s ambassador was attacked and injured in his car in Tehran on Tuesday by an Afghan, officials said.
A Pakistani foreign ministry spokesman said in Islamabad the assailant had tried to stab envoy Mohammad Bakhsh-Abbasi. “The ambassador is slightly hurt but he is out of danger,” he said.
An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman told Iran’s Arabic language al-Alam television the attacker had been arrested.
“The ambassador was attacked in his car and he was injured. The attacker, who was an Afghan citizen, has been arrested and is being interrogated now,” he said. There was no immediate word on the motive for the assault.
“The ambassador is in a good condition,” Iran’s student news agency ISNA quoted police chief Hossein Sajedinia as saying.
