Tehran, Jun. 12 –  A group of anti-government protesters charged at State Security Forces at 20:00 local time on Saturday in Tehran’s Ferdowsi Square forcing police units to draw back in their vehicles and on motorbikes.

Two security force officers were cornered by opposition supporters and severely beaten.

Dustbins were set alight between Ferdowsi Square to the west to Enqelab Square and to the east to Imam Hossein Square.

Police helicopters hovered overhead.

Protesters were gathering in Navvab Avenue once again.

Police fired tear gas at anti-government protestors in Taleqani Street.

State Security forces attacked protesters from the Fisher-Abad side of Ferdowsi Square to push them out.

Campus security staff and members of the hard-line paramilitary Bassij force at Tehran University attacked protesting students with batons and sticks.

Hundreds of people had gathered outside Tehran University, chanting “Khamenei shame on you, leave our country alone”. They were referring to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. At least a dozen people were arrested outside the university.
