TEHRAN (Reuters) – Twenty-nine people were killed and 11 injured when a passenger bus plunged off a bridge in central Iran Wednesday, state television reported.

“The driver was sleepy and caused the accident near the central city of Saveh,” said a local police official.

Iran is believed to have one of the highest road accident rates in the world due to inadequate enforcement of safety standards by police, bad roads and reckless driving.
