Tehran, Jun. 03 – Iran is ready to deliver a “crushing and firm” response to any aggression by Israel, a senior Iranian Majlis (Parliament) deputy said.
“The Zionist regime [Israel] very occasionally makes such unfounded remarks which will have no impact on Iran’s approaches and ties”, said Kazem Jalali of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. His remarks were carried on Thursday by the state-run news agency Fars.
Jalili was referring to comments earlier in the week by Israel’s minister for strategy affairs who called for stepped up international action to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Friday said there would be no tranquillity in the Middle East as long as Israel continues to exist.
Iran has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz if it comes under attack over its controversial nuclear activities. About 40 percent of the world’s traded oil leaves the Gulf region through the strategic waterway on Iran’s southern shore.
