TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian state TV says a conservative politician and 10 other passengers were hurt after a tire burst on an airplane landing in the northeast of the country.

The incident happened about midnight in the Mashad airport when the front tire of an Airbus belong to Iranian Mahan airline burst.

There were some 230 passengers on board including Mohsen Rezaei, a conservative politician who ran against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2009. Rezaei was slightly injured.

Iran has a history of aviation accidents. Officials blame the crashes on an old fleet and lack of spare parts that Iran cannot obtain because of sanctions by Western countries on exporting advanced parts to Iran.

The West suspects Iran is pursuing nuclear weapon, a charge Iran denies.
