Mohsen Rezai, the secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council, announced his candidacy for next year’s presidential election, the Iranian Labour News Agency reported.

“My presence in the next presidential election is definitive and I will participate to win,” said Rezai, a former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, according to ILNA.

Rezai, who ran in the 2009 race and lost to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, spoke in a meeting with a group of Tehran residents, ILNA said.

Iranian authorities haven’t yet set a date for the race.
