Tehran, Iran, Nov. 30 – Iran’s Interior Minister censured the United Nations refugee agency for its criticism of the Islamic Republic of its treatment of refugees.

In a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres on Saturday, Hojjatoleslam Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said that no county’s treatment of refugees matched those of the Islamic Republic.

The UNHCR has cited human rights abuses against refugees in Iran.

Pour-Mohammadi said that the charges were “unjust” and were unacceptable to Iranian officials and the government in Tehran.

The cleric, who was formerly a senior official in the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), Iran’s dreaded secret police, said that Tehran expected international bodies to take into account Iran’s concerns about the matter.
