London, Oct. 11 The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will launch a new Farsi-language television channel targeting viewers in Iran, the media giant announced on Tuesday.
The new service is due to begin in early 2008, the BBC said, adding that it would cost £15 million a year.
Funding will come from Britains Foreign Office.
In a speech at the British think-tank Chatham House in London, Britains Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown said, The BBC’s proposed Farsi TV Channel is an editorially independent specialist TV service for the people of Iran. And I am pleased to announce that we are making available the resources for this today.
