Kish Island, Iran, Oct. 21 – The economic situation in Kish Island, located off the southern coast of mainland Iran in the Persian Gulf, has seriously deteriorated in recent months, locals say.

The market is idle with little buying and selling, and the purchasing power of the locals has dwindled dramatically.

The recently stepped-up hard-line approach to women’s veiling has dissuaded women tourists from coming to the holiday island.

Many businesses in the island have protested against the new tougher policy.

The head of the bazaar merchants in the island has written to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, complaining that if the situation continues the way it is right now, all businesses will go bankrupt.
