Tehran, Iran, Feb. 20 – Iran’s Interior Ministry has set up a new intelligence-gathering directorate across the country, the semi-official daily Kayhan reported on Monday.

The report said that the department had the task of gathering intelligence and distributing a security-related bulletin among the country’s officials and governorates.

Brigadier General Mohammad Namjouyan, a top Interior Ministry official, said the network had begun surveillance operations in 17 of the country’s provinces.
