Tehran, Iran, Mar. 21 – Iranian state television announced on Wednesday that hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was Iran’s “Man of the Year”.

The bulletin, read out on Channel 3, stated that Ahmadinejad had received the most number of votes, adding that polling was done via SMS text messaging on mobile phones over the last 45 days of the Iranian calendar year.

Wednesday marks the first day of the Persian year 1386.

State-conducted polls in Iran have been accused of bias by many experts and ordinary Iranians who say they are mainly a reflection of government thinking.
