London, Jul 12. The United States Senate unanimously adopted a resolution on Wednesday warning Iran not to meddling in the affairs of neighbouring Iraq.
The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran must take immediate action to end all training, arming, equipping, funding, advising, and any other forms of support that it or its agents are providing, and have provided, to Iraqi militias and insurgents, who are contributing to the destabilization of Iraq and are responsible for the murder of members of the United States Armed Forces, stated the Senate resolution which was passed with 97 to 0 votes.
The resolution was tabled by Independent Democrat Senator Joseph Lieberman.
It called on General David Petraeus, the commander of the Multi-National Force Iraq (MNF-I), and Ryan C. Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, to provide Congress with bimonthly reports on Irans strategy and ambitions in Iraq and aid to anti-coalition forces.
